Saturday July 16th- A day to ourselves in Strasbourg, France

Saturday morning we woke up in Obernai, hustled through breakfast, packed our bags and said farewell to the incredible LeParc hotel, then walked to the Gare (train station) to catch our train ride to Strasbourg.

After a short 20 minute journey, we arrived at the large Strasbourg Central train station, and noticed a strong presence of French Army troops outfitted in full camouflage gear and automatic weapons.  We were met at the station by Anne, our young Alsatian tour guide, who gave us a very interesting and thorough tour of the city, before leaving us at our hotel.

After checking in to our room, we spent the rest of the day touring Strasbourg on our own, or in small groups with our biking friends. The day included a spectacular climb up the spiral stairs of the iconic Cathedral of Notre Dame- the most visible landmark in the city.  The view from high on top of the cathedral was amazing.

After dark, at 10:30PM, the people who were still awake were treated to an incredible light show that was projected onto the outside wall of the massive cathedral, and synchronized with beautiful music.
